Tonight's Debate

By Anonymous -
C-Span will be broadcasting tonight's debate live beginning at 7pm EST. It will also be shown online. The link above goes to C-span's online feeds. If you tune in via the net, please select the "low bandwidth" option. As you know, we've crashed many a server, so select the low bandwidth option so that more people can tune in.
Also, MSNBC has a bunch of Dean video in today's video archive, and I'm trying to find out if today's Iowa event will be broadcast online. If you already know of a stream, please post it to the comments so I can append this post.

John Kerry and the Wisdom of the Crowd

By Dignan -
It is generally said that there is wisdom is crowds. And this is often the case. However in election season those crowds turn into mobs and the wisdom disappears. This latest Kerry flap is just the latest example of this. The majority of the conservative blogosphere is roiling with righteous indignation about Kerry, hoping that this is their "October surprise". (Fortunately, a few of my favorites including James Lileks , Rod Dreher , and La Shawn Barber are not drinking the Kool-Aid). After hearing many conservatives scream for years about wanting to campaign on the issue, it is disheartening to see so many jumping on the bandwagon of a non-issue. I suppose what keeps me from being a cynic is being willing to assume the best of people, not the worst. Some might think that this goes against my Christian theology (original sin and all that) but it doesn't. While we are all certainly flawed and make mistakes on a daily basis, we are also made in the image of God (memo to m...

More responses on Dean wowing the CA Dems

By Aziz P. -
Regular DeanBlog contributor Carl Withak has a long post full of photos (and video?) from the convention floor about Dean's speech: With each line the Governor completed the audience became more energized. By the time he had completed the above statement he had at least 80% of the crowd off their seats, screaming and waving Dean signs! No other speech before or after received anything like this. At best, a speaker could count on 30-40% of the crowd to get off of their seats and applaud. This show of support was deafening. ... As the good Doctor began to wrap things up he seemed to feed off the audience. His face become red, nearly the entire convention on their feet, screaming his praise, Governor Dean bellowed, "I want my country back! We want our country back!" From the looks of it, California is definitely Dean Country among the party faithful. ... Outside the convention doors hordes of delegates converged on the Dean booth snatching up whatever Dean material...

When your hometown press says this about your nasty political ploys...well, it just may be time stop

Brian McGrory of the Boston Globe writes: Pretend, for a moment, that Kerry was talking in clear English, which is something of a stretch these days, given that he's making Tom Menino sound like Tony Blair. But what he's doing, if I'm interpreting him correctly, is accusing Dean of not being a man of his word, and a man who doesn't live up to his word, Kerry is essentially saying, is unqualified to be president. So let's go back to 1996, to Kerry's reelection campaign against then-Governor Bill Weld, specifically to the night Weld met Kerry at the senator's wife's Beacon Hill mansion. They finalized an unprecedented agreement to limit advertising spending to $5 million apiece, and to limit the use of personal funds in the campaign to $500,000 apiece. Good government types hailed the agreement as a major breakthrough. Kerry and Weld basked in the plaudits of editorialists the nation over. Kerry described the pact as "a model for campaign ref...
