Vermont = Hell

Not that this will surprise anyone here at Dean Nation but if Howard Dean is the Democratic nominee, the GOP will most certainly be giving out tickets to the epic feature "Vermont: Hell on Earth" -- and the Mighty Wurlitzer will no doubt subject us all to repeated viewings.

The real question is how to counter it. Read the thoughts of one of Howard Dean's fellow Vermonters and discuss: how can the Dean campaign best combat this kind of (inevitable) right wing attack?

The right wing doesn’t like Vermont or Vermonters...Perhaps what galls right-wingers is that we’re a generally tolerant, non-judgmental people. Children of flatlanders marrying into woodchuck families are so commonplace that it barely merits notice...Could it be that right-wingers are running scared? Not only do they deem it necessary to slander a candidate, they’re also going after his state. “Vermont is hell” is the kind of ridiculous political argument that the right wing has in store for all the Democratic candidates and the people of their states.

I seem to recall our guy responding to one of these kinds of attacks (this was several months ago) by saying that he'd stack his record in Vermont up against Shrub's record in Texas any day of the week. And that if given a choice between the "Texas Miracle" and Dean's Vermont, most people would pass on Texas. (Sorry I can't recall the exact quote.) Anyway, that's one way to address this type of hooey.
